Flaming June
Learn how to capture texture, fabric and the body in this secondary teachers’ continuing professional development workshop.
Join artist and educator Russell Chater to experiment with new ways of making and thinking. Inspired by Flaming June, on display in our Collection Gallery until January, you’ll explore the different works and look closely at the use of drapery in art.
Following a brief visit to the gallery, we’ll think about abstraction and surrealism, juxtaposition and disruption and explore techniques for creating a sense of light and shade, form and depth in your own drawings.
We’ll also consider questions of the gaze and changing attitudes to the body in art history, incorporating accessible and engaging thinking into the curriculum, and how it applies to the art classroom.
We welcome all levels of art knowledge and particularly encourage state school teachers who would benefit from extra CPD support to teach art at secondary level. All materials will be provided.
Please note that this workshop will include a nude male life model.
