Friends of the RA book first
Create your own unique floral composition with artist David Price, taking a wide range of materials and process on an experimental journey, from collage into painting.
Please note: this is an in-person event only
The painting of flowers has had a consistent place in the history of art and Royal Academicians like Mary Moser RA and Clare Woods RA often use flowers as inspiration. In this weekend workshop, artist David Price builds upon this storied history by encouraging participants to expand beyond tradition, pushing their creative ability and experimenting with new technical and artistic skills.
Over the weekend, participants will begin by creating expressive compositions with collage, working with various materials including their own drawings, constructed stencils and rubbings, printmaking and found images. Participants will progress towards incorporating their collages and constructions into a finalised painting composition. Complemented by visits to the RA Collection Gallery and Archive, participants will leave the course with a fuller understanding of these artistic processes and of the powerful potential of working with flowers.
David Price works in drawing, painting and printmaking. David is represented by Frestonian Gallery, London and his work is regularly exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is held in the V&A Print Archive. An alumni of the Royal Collage of Art, he studied Fine Art Printmaking, after which he was invited to be a Junior Fellow of the Royal Academy. David has been teaching at the Royal Academy since 2013 and his prints are available in the RA Shop.
