Extent & medium
1 piece
Content Description
Draft letter denying that he had told Londonderry that he was indifferent whether Londonderry purchased the statue of 'Bacchus' or not, as his correspondent had claimed in a letter. Gibson had deferred a request for part payment for the work out of delicacy. His other patrons had either not needed to be asked for a deposit, or had not been reminded by Gibson, in which case he had found them to be "men of honour" when they received the finished work. Gibson informs Londonderry that the custom at Rome, if an order was withdrawn, was to pay the sculptor one third of the price of the work.
