Content Description
Rejecting Gibson's offer of the statue of 'Bacchus' in an uncoloured state, because he had gained the impression when they had met in Rome, that it was a matter of indifference to Gibson whether he purchased the statue or not. Londonderry emphasises the point that Gibson had not asked for an advance payment for the work. He also writes that he would not have given permission for a copy of the head to be made, had he known that the statue was positively intended for him. He therefore declines to purchase the work.
