Content Description

Draft letter, in reply to a note from Londonderry informing Gibson that it was not convenient for him to receive the statue of 'Bacchus'. Gibson had been asked the price of the statue by Lord Portarlington when it was at the clay model stage, and had assumed that the information was for Londonderry. He mentions the great value attached by its owner to his statue of 'Venus', and the fact that a statue of himself had been included amongst those of six sculptors by King Louis of Bavaria in Munich. Gibson concludes by asking for one third of the price of the statue, which was mearly finished, and stipulates that the work should remain his property.
