Content Description

Thanking Bowyer for offering him the work relating to the House of Commons. He suggests the "passing [of] the bill of Catholic claims" as subject, because of its interest to the whole of Europe, but objects to Bowyer's suggestion that candlelight should be used in the composition. He proposes a rate of 100 guineas a month for the time he spends on the work, which is the lowest sum he must earn to pay his annual expenses. He is prepared to lower his demands in this way because he thinks of the picture as being of the utmost consequence to his future views in life.
