Painter, print-maker. Studied at the Royal Academy schools; worked in London (but from 1826 to 1831 in Florence, Rome and Paris). Was knighted in 1842. Son of miniaturist and teacher Charles Hayter (1761-1835); brother of portrait draughtsman John Hayter (1800-95).
