Making Space
Our inclusive artist development programme for learning disabled and neurodivergent artists.
Making Space is an inclusive artist development programme for a group of learning-disabled and neurodivergent artists. This includes individuals with complex support needs.
We welcomed artists to apply to this year’s programme through an open submission process. We’re pleased to reveal the eight selected artists for Making Space 2023:
- Babajide Brian
- Cecilia Caulder
- Josh Brown
- Fatma Zainal
- Georgina Harris
- Richard Okuwosa
- Chris Harman
- Trevor Small
During the project, artists will meet monthly at the RA for learning and mentorship. Taking inspiration from our Collection, exhibitions, and each other, the artists will work to expand and develop their art practice. Artist educators Georgia Akbar, Helen Rousseau and Anna Farley will work alongside the cohort, supporting them to gain new skills and shape their own professional development.
This year's programme began in July 2023 and was due to end in March 2024.
Reflecting on our first year, we have agreed to turn Making Space into a 2-year project. We’re excited to be working with the same artist cohort until May 2025, and supporting their development over a longer time period.
