Join Tracey Emin CBE RA and art historian Sir Norman Rosenthal as they discuss Egon Schiele for Sussex University’s annual Evi Wohlgemuth Memorial Lecture, held in conjunction with The Austrian Cultural Forum.
On the occasion of the exhibition Klimt / Schiele: Drawings from the Albertina Museum, Vienna, Tracey Emin RA joins Sir Norman Rosenthal to discuss how the celebrated Austrian artist Egon Schiele continues to inspire her practice today.
Tracey Emin was elected a Royal Academician in 2007, the same year she represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale. Her work has been exhibited extensively around the world. Most recently, she unveiled her City of Sydney permanent public art commission, The Distance of Your Heart (2018) and her largest artwork to date, I Want My Time With You (2018), St Pancras International, London. Emin has also exhibited her work in a series of acclaimed dialogues with past masters she admires; including Where I Want to Go, with Egon Schiele, The Leopold Museum, Vienna (2015). She is currently working on her forthcoming solo exhibition at White Cube, London in February 2019.
Sir Norman Rosenthal is a British independent curator and art historian. From 1970-1974 he held the post of Exhibitions Officer at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and following this he became the curator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts until 1976. He then joined the Royal Academy of Arts in 1977 as the Exhibitions Secretary until 2008. Rosenthal has been a trustee of numerous national and international cultural organisations since the 1980s; and is currently on the board of English National Ballet.
Held in conjunction with the Austrian Cultural Forum.
This event is open to Friends of the RA, RA250 Friends and RA250 Supporters, and members of the Academicians’ Room only.
