Royal Academician Sonia Boyce reflects on the art that has inspired her work.
In conversation with our artistic director Tim Marlow, Sonia Boyce RA explores what a portrait of Ira Aldridge, the celebrated 19th-century black actor, means to her and its relevance to her artistic process. The portrait is currently on display at Manchester Art Gallery, where this event will be held.
As part of our 250th anniversary celebrations, three Royal Academicians are taking part in a new series of digital talks about their chosen Object of Obsession: a work of art by another artist that means something special to them.
Each revelatory encounter will be hosted by the gallery or museum that houses the piece, and streamed live on our Facebook and YouTube pages to art fans across the globe.
Objects of Obsession is brought to you in partnership with The Space.
