RA Lates: Carnival Macabre
Saturday 9 May 2020 7 - 11pm
Royal Academy of Arts
£25 - £75
Experience an otherworldly night at the RA that takes inspiration from the fantastical masquerade balls, wild sea and melancholic landscape of the seaside town of Ostend.
Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding coronavirus, we regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to cancel RA Lates: Carnival Macabre. If you have purchased tickets to this event, we will automatically refund you in the coming days.
In the early 1900s, Spilliaert’s insomnia-induced night-walks along the blustery seafront in Ostend found creative expression in his psychologically-charged images. He occasionally incorporated literary and philosophical references, and his works suggest magic, melancholia and mystery.
We invite you to explore our Carnival Macabre and discover secret ballrooms, masked creatures, waltzing dance performances and pop-up poetry across the RA, taking inspiration from the Ostend depicted by Léon Spilliaert.
Programme to be announced.
