Summer Exhibition 2019
Join us inside the Summer Exhibition for breakfast alongside a discussion of this year’s themes and submissions with Architecture Room curator Spencer de Grey RA.
Architecture has been an integral part of the Royal Academy since its 18th-century beginnings. Having celebrated our 250th anniversary with a renewed commitment to promoting the culture of architecture, its future at the RA has been affirmed and transformed. In the past year, we've unveiled a new dedicated architecture space with free entry, an annual architecture exhibition, and two new global awards championing architecture practice.
The Summer Exhibition continues to celebrate architecture by providing a platform for contemporary practitioners to showcase designs and models, championing well-established Royal Academicians alongside new and emerging practices.
Spencer de Grey RA studied architecture at Cambridge University and graduated in 1969. He joined Foster Associates in 1973, was made a partner in 1991 and has since been appointed joint Senior Executive and Head of Design at Foster & Partners.
In this early morning talk, he invites Patrons to take a closer look at some of the works chosen for this year's show, and explains how they got there.
Free for Patrons, booking required.
