Jeremy Deller in conversation with Tim Marlow

Life Room, Burlington Gardens. Entrance via West Yard.

Jeremy Deller discusses his recent project 'Iggy Pop Life Class' with the RA's Artistic Director, Tim Marlow.
In February 2016, 21 artists gathered at the New York Academy of Art for a special life drawing class with a guest model: American rock legend Iggy Pop. The idea for the class came from award-winning artist Jeremy Deller. Drawing on a collective pre-conceived idea of Iggy Pop’s body, generated by his presence in pop culture and physically energetic on-stage performances, Deller presented Iggy Pop’s physique in a new setting: a life drawing class. In stark contrast to his kinetic stage persona, Pop posed nude on a different kind of stage, while a diverse group of invited artists drew him using their own unique styles and techniques.
Known for his orchestration of large-scale collaborative projects and politically motivated works, Deller was the winner of the 2004 Turner Prize and represented Great Britain at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.
In this event, Deller discusses the Iggy Pop life class, as well as his wider career, in the historic and fitting setting of the RA Life Room at the heart of the RA Schools, where life drawing classes have taken place for centuries.
This event coincides with the publication of Iggy Pop Life Class, published by Brooklyn Museum and Heni Publishing, and the Iggy Pop Life Class exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, New York.
There will be a book signing following the event.
£18, £10 concessions.
