Join a special screening of Sky Arts documentary 'Royal Academy: Painting the Future', an extraordinary exploration of creating art in a VR environment.
This special screening includes an introduction from the RA's Artistic Director Tim Marlow and an opportunity to hear from the film's producer, John Cassy.
Sky Arts, in collaboration with Google Arts and Culture, has produced the documentary film Royal Academy: Painting the Future, which interrogates the role of virtual reality experiences within contemporary art practice. Artists Antony Gormley RA, Jonathan Yeo, Farshid Moussavi RA, Yinka Shonibare RA and Humphrey Ocean RA explore the extraordinary potential of virtual reality as an art form, as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Royal Academy: Painting the Future is part of From Life, our special exhibition project examining what making art from life has meant to artists throughout history and how the practice is evolving as technology opens up new ways of creating and visualising artwork. Each of the artists above has created new artwork for From Life using artistic software programmes, such as Google Tilt Brush.
With exclusive access to the artists’ studios and working environments, Painting the Future captures the thrills and creative trepidation as artists explore a new medium, and examines in never-before-seen detail how each artwork takes shape. Join us for this special screening and exclusive opportunity to put your questions to the artists and producers involved in bringing this exceptional documentary to life.
This event is open to Friends, Academicians' Room members and the general public.
£20. Includes welcome drink.
