Video: David Hockney on his celebration of spring
Published on 9 June 2021
With David Hockney's joyful exhibition of spring works filling our galleries – but the artist back at home in his Normandy studio – curator Edith Devaney catches up with him from the RA, pandemic-style.
“There is no oil painting art, or digital art... There’s only art, actually.”
David Hockney tells curator Edith Devaney why the iPad is his medium of choice these days – and how he's used it to capture joy in his works. All works: iPad paintings by David Hockney made between February and early July 2020. Collection of the artist. © David Hockney.
Exhibition organised by the Royal Academy of Arts, London in collaboration with the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels (BOZAR).
David Hockney: The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020 will be on show at the RA 23 May — 26 September 2021.
