F. Ernest Jackson ARA (1872 - 1945)
RA Collection: Art
A lithograph portrait of Jackson's wife Gertrude Anne Jackson (née Templeton). Jackson produced a number of portraits of his wife, in oils and watercolour and as lithographs, particularly around the time of their marriage in 1910. J.G.P. Delaney points out that Jackson re-used some of the props shown here, including the ginger jar on the shelf, in other works such as 'La Robe de Velours'.
After exhibiting some of his etchings at the International Society in London in 1911, Jackson stopped producing etchings and began to experiment with lithography instead.
Gertrude Anne Jackson was a professional singer who met F. E. Jackson while working for Beerbohm Tree's company at His Majesty's Theatre where the artist was designing sets. After her marriage she became a bookbinder.
