William Cotton, Landscape with a river and two figures fishing

Landscape with a river and two figures fishing, early 19th century

William Cotton (fl. 1834 - fl. 1843)

RA Collection: Art

A watercolour landscape with two figures fishing. William Cotton was a Derby porcelain painter and this scene, along with the others on the mount, is typical of the sort of rural landscape that was popularly depicted on plates and other porcelain ware in the early-mid 19th century. The drawing was once in the collection of either John Homes Smith or his son, J. H. Smith, who were both involved in the porcelain painting industry.
