William Lake Price (ca.1810 - 1896)
RA Collection: Art
In July 1858, The Athenæum reported the publication of Eminent British Artists twelve portraits by William Lake Price which included portraits of John Phillip, David Roberts, Augustus Egg, F. Taylor (probably John Frederick Tayler), Edward Ward, Alfred Elmore, Clarkson Stanfield and Daniel Maclise. The article praised their 'clear, common sense, and a quiet, strong good taste, which have seized without trick, strain, effort or affectation the leading points of each painter's manner, pose and dress...' and described this photograph as showing the 'brooding dreaminess' of Maclise.
