RA Collection: People and Organisations
Son of Revd. Charles Harward, Dean of Exeter. Married Charlotte Augusta Chambers, daughter of Sir William and Lady Catherine Chambers. In 1790, already an Ensign, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd Regiment of Footguards, serving with the Duke of York’s Expeditionary Force in the 1793 Flanders campaign, before retiring in 1794. In what appears to have been an undistinguished career he was appointed Gentleman Usher Quarter Waiter in The Queen’s Household in 1793, being promoted to Daily Waiter in 1807.
