He very much hopes that his father will be able to make it to Rome without trouble, and stay four or five months. Provides an itinerary for him involving Rome and Naples, should he come out with Macdonald. He needs to know whether father is indeed to come out. As she doesn't mention their Albano trip he can only imagine she disproved, but they have made another to Ostia. Continues in a joshing style about their "chumming" activities. The government has tightened controls on foreign residents. Describes a beatification ceremony. Jokingly discusses his marriage prospects.

He is "bashing" at his marble and gives instructions for how to handle the crate of his work. Discusses news of family and friends, asks for more. The Academy opens on Monday. He has invented a new style of playing draughts.
