Content Description
Draft letter stating that Lamb had consulted the President [
Sir Frank Dicksee] about the reinstatement of [Alfred] Gilbert in the Royal Academy. The President felt that a very awkward situation might arise, as there was no evidence that Gilbert had met the various outstanding claims against him in the scandal that led to his resignation in 1908. Indeed the Academy might be held responsible for the satisfaction of any such claims. He therefore preferred not to recommend Gilbert's readmission to the membership, although the Academy would of course bow to the King's decision in the matter.
