Ponsonby reports that a "miracle" had happened, and Gilbert had been working on the five figures for the Clarence tomb. In about two months he had produced five of the most beautiful figures that had ever been done. It showed that he was quite capable of doing delicate work and that his genius had in no way been diminished by his misfortunes. He was, however, frightned to death of the press and would not allow anyone to know where he was.
Ponsonby continues by stating that
Lady Helena Gleichen was very anxious that the Royal Academy should reinstate Gilbert. He asks Lamb to obtain the views of the President on the matter.
