Content Description

The writer comments that the unusual severity with which the painters at the RA at had been treated that year in the morning papers had made many people doubt the candour of the critic. However, when it was known that Mr Hoppner, himself a painter, had confessed writing many of them, "it must be allowed that every attention should be paid to an artist of his worth and merit, and that he deserves the thanks rather than the censures of the public for so ably pointing out to them the beauties of his own performance, and the defects in those of every other painter."
