Content Description
Fry describes the background to the correspondence: Gilbert had stated that he wanted to add a bit of plate to the Merchant Taylors' collection; Fry had succeeded in getting hold of the model after Gilbert's smash; Gilbert had said he had smashed a series of plaster models of plate designs after he had got the bailiffs out of his studio.
