For her Selina Chenevière Fellowship Prize exhibition, Amy Petra Woodward presents a series of large, reflective fabric works that consider contemporary image production, with an emphasis on material sensation.
The attention-seeking properties of the fabric parallel the way in which the human gaze is captured by images and objects and in turn, the attentiveness that is demanded by an artwork or something ‘on show’ — which asks the question: what are you looking at?
Amy Petra Woodward (b.1986) was awarded the Selina Chenevière Fellowship Prize upon graduating from the Royal Academy Schools in 2013. She previously studied at Camberwell College of Art. Recent exhibitions include a solo presentation at Palazzo Peckham, Venice Biennale. Woodward has just completed a studio and research residency with Unilever and has works in both the Unilever and V22 Collections.

The Selina Chenevière Award provides a travel bursary for a student at the RA Schools. Set up in 2001 by Antoine Chenevière in memory of his late wife Lady Selina Chenevière, the prize is awarded at the Schools Show to a third year student, to fund a trip or visit to a destination which they feel will inform their practice. The Royal Academy mounts an exhibition of the award-winning student's work resulting from or inspired by their trip, presented in the Gallery Café.
