Zaha Hadid in focus
Monday 12 December 2016 6.30 - 8pm
Geological Society, Piccadilly, W1
£12, £6 concessions. Includes panel discussion and drinks.
Speakers reflect on the work and legacy of the late Zaha Hadid RA, whose death earlier this year has left world architecture without one of its biggest stars.
"A planet in her own inimitable orbit" was how the architect Rem Koolhaas famously described his former student and collaborator. "For three decades now she has ventured where few would dare", wrote Sir Peter Cook RA in her RIBA Gold Medal citation in 2015. To the jury who awarded Hadid the Pritzker Prize, hers was an "architectural idiom like no other". From her radical early experiments on paper, to her vast portfolio of projects across the world, Hadid’s work captured the imagination of a huge range of observers, attracting widespread acclaim as well as sometimes provoking controversy.
In this event, speakers from across the architecture world offer incisive reflections on the work and legacy of a towering figure of 21st-century architecture.
Speakers include:
Hélène Binet – architectural photographer
Nicholas Boyarsky – Boyarsky Murphy Architects
Paul Finch – Programme Director, World Architecture Festival
Hanif Kara – AKT II
Farah Nayeri – culture writer, New York Times
Eugene Rogan – Director of the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford
Patrik Schumacher – Principal at Zaha Hadid Architects
Chaired by Charles Saumarez Smith – Chief Executive, Royal Academy of Arts
£12, £6 concessions. Includes panel discussion and drinks.
