An exclusive screening of 'The New York School', featuring interviews and footage of the major artists of Abstract Expressionism.
‘The New York School’ was the name given to the group of painters based in New York City, also known as Abstract Expressionists. Providing a retrospective overview of their work, this rare documentary features interviews with and footage of the major artists of the time including Arshile Gorky, Adolphe Gottlieb, Philip Guston, Hans Hofmann, Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Lee Krasner, Robert Motherwell, Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko, Clifford Still and Jack Tworkov. Critics Harold Rosenberg and Clement Greenberg also give their insights into the issues raised by the paintings themselves. The New York School is narrated by art historian and critic Barbara Rose.
