Drop in for a day of architecture based, family activities that explore the whole of the Royal Academy's campus as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

Join our programme of workshops, drawing tours and the ever-popular Lego architecture challenge, to get a closer look at the architecture of the RA and to discover how architects and architecture affect the identity of a place.

Sky Creatures Drawing Workshop
11am-1pm
Drop in for a drawing workshop led by aLL Design in the Architecture Studio. In this workshop inspired by the work of Will Alsop RA and aLL Design's current projects, come and create 'sky creatures' that hover above existing buildings.

RA Lego Architecture Challenge
2-4pm
Watch Alma-nac, Office S&M and KPF Architects battle it out to create the most innovative and imaginative project that explores the boundaries between old and new.

The programme

Shapeshifters

Blur the boundaries between architecture and sculpture in this family studio inspired by the colourful creations of Phyllida Barlow RA. Create contrasts between hard and soft structures as you experiment with materials. Build up strong shapes and edges with mod roc, or wrap in wool and felt layers to make something that’s satisfyingly squashy.

Drop in between 11am – 3pm. Meet in the Clore Learning Centre.

This family studio is created in partnership with Open House Families.

Drawing tour

Embark on a drawing tour of the RA and seek out its unique blend of architecture from another perspective.

Tours will run from 11am, 1pm and 2.15pm. Meet in the Julia and Hans Rausing hall.

Shapeshifters: breakout space

If you don’t like crowds or loud noises, our breakout space will offer a more peaceful environment for you to relax and take part in – with gentle multi-sensory activities facilitated by an experienced artist educator.

Drop in between 11am – 3pm. Meet in the Grand Assembly Room. Follow signage from the Burlington House front hall or ask our front of house team to direct you.

Drop in for a drawing workshop led by aLL Design in the Architecture Studio. In this workshop inspired by the work of Will Alsop RA and aLL Design's current projects, come and create 'sky creatures' that hover above London's distinctive skyline.

RA Lego architecture challenge

Watch Alma-nac, Office S&M and KPF Architects battle it out to create the most innovative and imaginative project that explores the boundaries between old and new. The practices will have to consider a bit of known heritage and propose new structures that avoid clear delimitation within the urban realm.

Join us and see how architects consider their surrounding built environment and forge a new relationship between historic and contemporary architecture, all in Lego form.
