Stratfield Saye was given by the nation to the first Duke of Wellington for his victory at Waterloo.
In this anniversary year of the Battle of Waterloo we are delighted to return to Stratfield Saye, the elegant, but intimate, house given by the nation to the First Duke of Wellington for being the saviour of his country and of Europe.
The house remains the home of the Great Duke’s descendants and we are privileged to be taken around the interiors to see the Duke’s fascinating collection of paintings, furniture and personal mementos. We also see the Wellington Exhibition, housed in the stables, which includes the Duke’s magnificent cast bronze funeral carriage made from melted-down French cannons captured at the Battle of Waterloo.
£84, including coach, coffee, lunch, glass of wine, tea, cake.
Please note this visit includes a considerable amount of walking.
