This year Royal Academy America has the privilege of hosting its 2016 Gala at the landmark Hearst Tower in New York City.
Building upon last year’s gala honouring Usher Raymond IV, Jeff Koons Hon RA, Cornelia Parker OBE RA, and Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT Group, Royal Academy America will celebrate the accolades of Lord Norman Foster RA, Jenny Holzer Hon RA, and Andrew & Paula Liveris.
An award-winning and prolific British architect known for sleek and modern designs of steel and glass, Lord Foster’s ability to match generic human experiences with emerging technologies can be seen in his architecture around the globe. Foster + Partners has received more than 400 awards for excellence in the field. He was honored with a life peerage in the Queen’s Birthday Honors List (1990) and was made a Royal Academician in 1991.
As an American neo-conceptual artist, Ms. Holzer’s medium is writing, which is widely recognized through light projections on landscape and architecture. The public dimension is integral to the delivery of her work. Exhibitions and installations include Installation for Bilbao, Guggenheim Bilbao (1997); For 7 World Trade, 7 World Trade Center, New York (2006); and War Paintings, Museo Correr, Venice (2015). She received the Leone d’Oro at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award in 1996, as well as numerous other honors and accolades. Jenny Holzer was made an Honorary Royal Academician in 2016.
