In its UK premiere, this documentary by director Carlos Saura creates an intimate portrait of architect Renzo Piano during the design and construction of Centro Botín in Santander.
Award-winning filmmaker Carlos Saura follows Renzo Piano in the construction of one of his most iconic projects – the Centro Botín art gallery, located in the bay of Santander, in northern Spain.
From its elevated glass and steel walkways to the 280,000 round ceramic tiles that reflect the surrounding sunlight and the sea, the building makes a strong visual statement and Saura does it justice, as well as providing a fascinating first-hand account of how the 10,000m2 project came to be.
The documentary is also a rigorous interrogation of the relationship between architecture and cinema, as both architect and filmmaker delve into the creative process behind this magnificent structure that altered the landscape and artistry of the city.
