Charles Stewart
Spend an afternoon behind the scenes at the Royal Academy to discover the rich tradition of black and white book illustration and find out how it informed the gothic art of Charles Stewart.
In the beautiful surroundings of the RA Library, Amanda Doran, former curator of the ‘Punch’ archive, leads an intimate session exploring the history of 250 years of black and white book illustration. After a curator-led tour of the exhibition Charles Stewart: Black and White Gothic, guests have the unique opportunity to closely examine rare volumes from the Royal Academy's historic book collection. Books on display will include Charles Stewart's collection of Victorian illustrated novels, as well as the work of Tenniel, Doyle, The Robinson Brothers, Ardizzone, Searle, Charles Keeping and others.
