Art of Sound returns this spring with an exceptional programme of live jazz with Mark Kavuma in a two-day residency in the Academicians' Room.
After the success of Mark Kavuma’s debut performances for members' of The Academician’s Room in 2018, we have once again collaborated with the trio to bring you more live jazz this year.
In this next installation Mark presents his new set: The Genius of modern music, Thelonious Monk.
Mark Kavuma fast became a key trumpet player on the British Jazz scene. Leading his own Quartet, The Banger Factory, The ‘Floor Rippers’ House Band, as well as playing with Jean Toussaint’s Young Lions, Jazz Jamaica, The Alan Weekes Quintet and one of the brass teachers at London based carnival band, Kinetika Bloco.
Mark has been featured as guest soloist with Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra. He’s also had the pleasure playing and touring with greats in the line of Salif Keita and Les Ambassaduers, Mulatu Astatke, Barry Harris, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Kano, Scritti Polliti - to name a few.
