A former First Artist of the Royal Ballet and author of several acclaimed photography books, Andre Uspenski introduces his work at this special evening event.
Andre Uspenski combines a photographer's eye with a dancer's understanding of movement, to explore light and shadow through the dynamics of the human form. For over a decade of dancing with the Royal Ballet, Uspenski always had his trusty Canon nearby. After recently retiring from the stage, he naturally transitioned into a new role as in-house photographer for the Royal Ballet while continuing a career as a globally sought-after photographer and videographer, working with principals, premier dance companies and choreographers such as Wayne McGregor and Christopher Weldon.
A Dancer's View is Uspenski's first exhibition of fine art photography. From Steven McRae, Thiago Soares and Iana Salenko, through to first soloists, soloists and first artists, the subjects are his friends and colleagues from the Royal Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinksi Ballet and Berlin State Ballet among others. All are at ease in front of Uspenski's camera, allowing for a rare freedom of movement and expression.
