We are pleased to offer a five-day all-inclusive excursion to Cardiff and South Wales, which has been specially curated for the Friends of the Royal Academy.
We will be visiting several iconic buildings and collections in the area, including the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff Castle and the Senned building, as well as some intriguing, less well-known venues such as the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Stradey Castle.
For four nights we will stay at the four-star New Country House Hotel, located on the fringes of Cardiff in the rolling Welsh hills. Each day we will travel by coach to places of architectural and art-historical interest in Cardiff itself, as well as deeper into South Wales.
Our itinerary features visits to Cardiff’s artistic and architectural highlights, including the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff Castle, Llandaff Cathedral, Castell Coch (the stunning ruins of a 13th-century "romantic folly"), and the Welsh National Assembly’s Senned building. Further afield, Friends will enjoy tours of Llanelli’s wonderful Victorian mansion Stradey Castle, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea, the privately owned medieval Fonmon Castle in Barry (where we have dinner in the beautiful library) and Newport’s Tredegar House, recently restored and opened by the National Trust. On our final day we will have a private guided tour of the stunning Elizabethan/Jacobean mansion, Lllanvihangel Court.
This all-inclusive trip will be accompanied by Royal Academy staff, and wherever possible all tours will be led by curators or property owners. For full details please see the brochure here and tour price and practical details here.
If you are interested in booking for the tour please email Sue Stamp at sue.stamp@royalacademy.org.uk for a booking form.
