John Madejski Fine Rooms | Burlington House

Discover the art, architecture and history of the RA in a special one-hour tour of the historic John Madejski Fine Rooms, led by Senior Curator of Collections, Dr. Hannah Higham.
Join us as we explore newly-displayed highlights from the RA Collection. Our impressive John Madejski Fine Rooms currently house a range of twentieth-century paintings by Royal Academicians: from L.S. Lowry’s observation of hurried crowds in his Station Approach, to Carel Weight’s penetrating depiction of a family in remembrance in his work, The Silence.
You’ll find the vastness of David Hockney’s Grand Canyon and Hugie O’Donoghue’s Vulcano, alongside intimate portraits by artists Jean Cooke and Orovida Pissarro. Hannah Higham will introduce these works in this behind-the-scenes tour in Burlington House, as you find out more about the ways in which our supporters help us care for our collection.
Dr. Hannah Higham joined the Royal Academy of Arts as our new Senior Curator of Collections in April 2023, having previously worked as the Senior Curator of Collections and Research for the Henry Moore Foundation. Formerly, she has worked for Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery and the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norfolk, and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham. She holds an MA from the Courtauld Institute and a PhD from the University of Birmingham on early sixteenth-century Florentine Sculpture.
This event is open to Friends, Bar & Garden Members and House Members of the RA only.
