Renowned artist Daniel Buren joins the RA’s Artistic Director Tim Marlow to discuss his first permanent public commission in the UK.
Tim Marlow talks to Daniel Buren, widely considered France’s greatest living artist and one of the most significant contributors to the conceptual art movement, about his life and work.
This event celebrates the completion of Diamonds and Circles, works in situ, Buren’s ambitious permanent installation for Tottenham Court Road station. The artwork, commissioned by Art on the Underground, extends and links to a long and distinguished body of artworks that he has made since the early 1970s. He has frequently used a "signature" motif of stripes, colours and shapes in a response to a variety of contexts, both in galleries and in public spaces.
In this talk, Buren will discuss his artistic practice and the significance of intervening in public space.
