Explore the sophisticated approach and spatial quietude of celebrated Spanish-Italian architects Barozzi Veiga through some of their most recent projects.
Established in 2004 by architects Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga, the Barcelona-based firm is known for its sensitive and contextual approach. Veiga and our speaker Barozzi, who had come to Seville from Italy on an Erasmus programme, met whilst working in the Seville studio of Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra. After the pair won a competition for a housing project they opened their own office in Barcelona, focusing on competitions for public buildings.
The practice has gone on to win numerous national and international competitions. In 2015, they were shortlisted for the project to redevelop King’s College’s Strand site in London.
Barozzi Veiga’s projects include the refurbishment of the Palace Santa Clara in Ubeda (2004), the headquarters for the Ribera del Duero wine company in Roa (2006), the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts in Lausanne (2011), the Tanzhaus in Zurich (2014) and the Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin (2014), which went on to win the 2015 Mies van der Rohe Prize.
