Sir George Clausen RA, Study of a barn interior with figures for 'Watson's Barn'

Study of a barn interior with figures for 'Watson's Barn', probably ca. 1931

Sir George Clausen RA (1852 - 1944)

RA Collection: Art

This drawing probably relates to the barn interior composition Watson's Barn (1931; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia) in which two figures are seen grappling with a sack on the right whilst a third figure facing them in the centre shovels grain. The interior and the two figures on the right almost exactly correspond, although the figure on the left seems to be bending over facing in the opposite direction in this drawing.

Clausen began to exhibit paintings of barn interiors as a distinct motif from 1897 until well into the 1930s.
