Sir George Clausen RA (1852 - 1944)
RA Collection: Art
This drawing is a study for the male and female figures at the right foreground of the painting Labourers After Dinner (1884; private collection). This study and the one on RA 05/825 reveal that Clausen altered the position of the legs of the man in the foreground a number of times before settling on the pose seen in the finished work. Here, the figure is also shown holding his pipe closer to his mouth. The figure of the woman was moved further back behind the man in the finished composition.
