Cast of slab of riders from North frieze of Parthenon (figures 122-124, Slab XLIV =Michaelis XXXIX)

The cast is of a slab from the north frieze of the Parthenon and shows three riders, two of whom wear long-sleeved garments. The original slab, (44 Jenkins, 39 Michaelis) is in the British Museum and was purchased from Lord Elgin in 1816. In 1865, the Museum purchased the head of the central rider; this cast was made before that date.

The Royal Academy has twenty major casts of the Parthenon frieze from the early nineteenth century. The majority are of the north frieze and were displayed in the Schools in two groups (slabs 36-39) and (slabs 40-47), which were framed by casts of the west and east frieze.
