The cast is a corner volute of a composite capital. The original object is almost assuredly from Rome; the volute resembles capitals from the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Baths of Caracalla, and the imperial palace on the Palatine Hill. It is, in fact, likely to have come from either the Baths or the Palatine.
