According to Adamson, an advertisement of 1854 claims William Stonehouse had been producing Daguerreotypes in Whitby as early as 1847 or 1848 and was in corresponedence with photographers in London. By 1856 he was using the Calotype and Collodion processes and could reduce his charges from five shillings to two shillings and sixpence.
