Carvers and gilders, looking glass and picture framemakers, later printsellers, publishers and picture dealers.
Formed in 1835 when Thomas Agnew took over sole control of a firm created by Vittore Zanetti in Manchester. A London branch was opened in 1860.
The firm contributed greatly to the 19th century growth of the market for contemporary British art. It continues to operate from its premises in London.
