Rupert Hart-Davis Limited was a British publishing company founded in 1946 by Rupert Hart-Davis (1907-1999), David Garnett and Teddy Young. It received financial backing from Eric Linklater, Arthur Ransome, H.E. Bates and Geoffrey Keynes. Rupert's own literary tastes dictated which books were accepted or rejected and he frequently turned down commercial successes. The expense of paper meant that the firm mainly published re-prints of dead authors. Some of their bestsellers include Heinrich Harrer's Seven Years in Tibet and Gamesmanship. They eventually merged with Heinemann in 1956.
