RA Collection: People and Organisations
In 1865 Charles William Dowdeswell (1832-1915) had a frame making and print shop at 36 Chancery Lane, London. In 1878 he opened a gallery at 133 New Bond Street. The firm moved to 160 New Bond Street in 1887. His son Walter, who had worked with him at the gallery, left in 1912 to work with the London dealer Joseph Duveen. The gallery appears to have ceased trading in that year.
