RA Collection: People and Organisations
Bookseller and publisher founded in 1843 by Bradley Thomas Batsford (1821-1904), specialising in fashion and design, embroidery and textiles, chess, British heritage, and architecture. In 1928 Batsford’s nephew, Harry Batsford (1910-1991) began working for the production department, designing dust jackets. Following his uncle’s death he was chairman from 1952 to 1974. The firm later became an imprint of Pavilion Books.
