Sylvia Townsend Warner (1893-1978) was an English novelist and poet. Born in Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middlesex, Warner later moved to Devonshire and was home schooled by her father. She was friendly with a number of the “Bright Young Things” and was active in the Communist Party of Great Britain along with Valentine Ackland. During her career she published a number of short stories and novels, including Lolly Willowes (1926), Mr Fortune’s Maggot (1927) and Summer will Show (1936).
