Illustrator and watercolour painter. Regular contributor to Punch between 1843-1850.
His father was the Irish cartoonist John Doyle (1797-1868). Richard had three brothers, who were all artists: James William Edmund Doyle (1822-1892); Charles Altamont Doyle (1832-1893) and Henry Edward Doyle (1827-1893). He was the uncle of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930).
