Leon de Beylié, born in Strasbourg, 1849, was a brigadier general, archaeologist and benefactor of the Grenoble Museum. His military career took place mainly in French Indochina where he died accidentally in a shipwreck during his sixth military campaign. He is also known for the gifts and legacies of paintings and objects he made at the Grenoble Museum.
